Here’s a collection of resources and friends of Chicago Camping whose sites you may find valuable. This list is updated frequently.
Free Campgrounds – A good resource for finding free and cheap (under $15) campsites across America. This site was invaluable during my cross-country trip a few years back.
Chicago State Parks – The official site for state parks in Illinois. Go here for more detailed info and descriptions on the state parks that we’ve covered (and some that we haven’t.)
Traveling Ted – A fascinating outdoor adventure travel blog from a Chicagoan. Ted is into hiking, camping, parks, and an appreciation of the great outdoors.
National Parks Traveler – Those who want to escape the Chicago area and explore national parks around the country should look no further than this site, which has updated news and info on the National Park System.
Quirky Travel Guy – Our travel blog focusing on road trips, national parks, camping, offbeat attractions and urban adventures throughout North America.
Boston Camping – Headed to Beantown? Boston is another city, like Chicago, that offers a number of great campgrounds within a three-hour drive from the city. Check out their list of campsites in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Chicago Skiing – Winter camping isn’t very feasible in the Windy City, so head outdoors and hit the slopes instead. Our sister site has a rundown of all the best skiing resorts in the Chicago area.
